Annabel Is 6!

Annabel has had a lovely birthday upon turning 6. Simple presents in the morning, sweets for her school celebration, and a yummy dinner out to eat at Chili's, of course (we've been going to Chili's for every birthday for a couple years now). The big shindig will be in a few days to celebrate both girls' birthdays.

Camporee 2012

Girl Scout Camporee! How we have grown to love Camporee. It was our third year at Camporee and it was as fun as ever. Lots of singing, lots of skits, lots of outdoor camping fun. Our troop leader has taken on three troops at the school, so we were a big group though still divided by actual troops (Daisy, Brownie and Junior). The tent town was enormous just for the three troops alone and there was a lot of giggling at bedtime despite such busy days and late nights at campfire.

Troop 32874 doing their skit. This year it did not involve bathroom humor. Hooray!

I led a hike up the hill to over look camp. Despite the heat the girls did well. We had quite a view up there.

A baby rattle snake. This year wasn't as bad as last year. Just three or four caught and relocated during Camporee.

Bundled up early in the morning.

Lucy and her friend.

We made lots of SWAPs (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere) this year to exchange, so Lucy had a great time SWAPping SWAPs.

Day three of camping for "Lucky" and "Oodles". Lucy's holding up OK, but I look pretty rough around the edges. This is most likely because of my leaky air mattress that deflated after a couple hours of sleep each night. The ground is hard. Very hard.

Troop shot at the end of Camporee. They all look exhausted but in the best way.

Disneyland Trip: Day Four

We met up with my cousin Kim and her fiance Brent on day four at Disneyland. The visit was short but sweet. They seem to be a very happy couple indeed! They also were very cute in their unintentionally matching attire. :)

Before we met up we started off with a Monorail ride. They've changed the route, so it's not as picturesque as I remember it being when I took the monorail at age 13, but we did get a good peek in at Cars Land, which is currently under construction. Then I went on Space Mountain while Brent and Kim were stuck on Indiana Jones for an hour. I nearly tossed my cookies after that ride. Won't be doing that again. Ever. Paul took Lucy on the Star Wars ride again while I recovered.

Finally in Tomorrowland Brent and Kim found us, then we found Paul and Lucy, and we all made our way to Adventureland. We did the Jungle Cruise together, and then went up into the Swiss Family Robinson tree house, which is so much fun! We walked around a bunch after that. My kids don't like the roller coasters and neither do I, with the exception of Big Thunder Mountain (which Lucy and I both go on eagerly), so we were kind of at a loss for how to spend our day as a big group. They had already done It's a Small World and only Sammy will go on Pirates of the Caribbean, so that was out. We all had just done the Jungle Cruise and the tree house... there really weren't many more places to go as a group. With that, after walking around a bit more, Kim and Brent were off to enjoy Splash Mountain and we stuck to the kiddie rides and stationary attractions that we seem to prefer. :) It was great to see them even if only for a short while.

After saying goodbye to Brent and Kim, we went to California Adventure's animation academy and tried our hand at drawing Donald Duck. I love this kind of thing and we all had a pretty good rendering of the grumpy old duck. We also went on the Ariel's ride for what seemed like the millionth time, and Paul and Lucy went on Soaring over California for the umpteenth time as well.

Annabel's Donald Duck. The guided drawing moves pretty quickly, so after voicing frustration an animation helper came over and filled in some of the major lines with her permission so she could catch up.

Disneyland Trip: Day Three

We went back to Disneyland for day three and started off with a  trip through Adventureland. We spent a lot of the day on Tom Sawyer's Island, our first time there. Then we stopped off in Fantasyland for a ride on King Arthur's Carrousel, only to finish off the day in Mickey's Toontown.

Disneyland Trip: Day Two

We spent our second day in Anaheim at California Adventure Park. An adventure in California indeed. It's a fun place with so much to do.

The kids met Dug, the dog from Up. "Squirrel!"

Lucy, Sammy and Daddy on the Ariel ride.

While Lucy and Paul were off riding Soaring over California I took the Sammy and Annabel to see the Disney Jr. show. We met Handy Manny afterward.

A lesson in perspective.

Disneyland Trip: Day One

Our annual Disneyland trip took place in May again this year. It's among the best times to go. This time we had no rain to speak of (so nice!), plus a more spacious hotel, complete with roaring lion. This vacation is pretty much our one and only for just a few days out of the entire year so we live it up. Rides, treats, swimming, drawing, dancing, dining out and endless walking. It's a good one while the kids are young, (this year it was 7, 5 and 3 years old.) and I think we'll be back again next year. I am sure it will become old hat and not such a wonder for them at some point, but for now it's all good.

This first day at Disneyland was Mother's Day and Paul's birthday, too. What a way to celebrate!

Our family in front of the castle and Mr. Disney.

First ride, the horse drawn street car.

The button I made Paul get. The cast members must say "Happy Birthday" when they see the pin. Perfect strangers were wishing Paul a happy birthday all day long. Hahahahaha!!!

On Annabel's favorite ride, It's a Small World.
Annabel with her Nala.

Lucy and Annabel meet Chip and Dale. Dale has the red nose.

A little bit of percussive expression next to the Matterhorn. Disneyland can be a bit much for me, but I do love how out of nowhere there can be an outbreak of spontaneous song and dance.

Watching the princesses in the Princess Fantasy Faire. Annabel is thrilled as you can see, and Lucy always loves a good show.

Lucy took this one of me and Sammy on the canal boats.
