Christmas in San Francisco

We took BART to San Francisco the weekend of Dec. 17. The kids had just got out of school on winter break and everyone was super excited for an action packed weekend to celebrate Christmas in San Francisco. We stayed at the Hilton near Union Square. We went to the Children's Creativity Museum in Yerba Buena Gardens and hit the waterfalls and carousel there, too. We went to see the Christmas tree in Union Square. We went out to dinner at Lori's Diner. We hung out in the hotel room for the rest of the night, writing notes and letters on the hotel stationary and watching The Wizard of Oz.

The next day we took the F Market streetcar (ours was an Italian car from the teens decorated top to bottom in Christmas decorations!) down to Fisherman's Wharf. We visited the sea lions, took in the beautiful San Francisco Bay views and rode another carousel (on the top deck this time!). We went to Rainforest Cafe for lunch and then topped off the day with a visit to Boudin Bakery to get our candy cane shaped sourdough loaf and see the best Santa I've ever known. He asked the kids questions, was really interested in them, was kind and was happy to pose for pictures too (but honestly it was more about talking with the kids for him). All in all it was a fabulous weekend filled with all the magic and wonder of Christmas in the City.

We are on our way!

All aboard!

The kids love the train. It grosses me out a little (they really need to switch out all that cloth for hard plastic that they can just hose down with disinfectant!) but we all survived.

In the hotel lobby is an elaborate gingerbread village, complete with a San Francisco cable car encircling the town.

Break time at Yerba Buena Gardens.
