Annabel's 4th Birthday Party

The big celebration of Annabel's 4th birthday came on the best possible weekend to hold a waterslide party. It was sunny and the warmest weekend of the year so far (but not too warm), and everyone was well and happy to boot. She had lots of her preschool and playgroup buddies for outside playtime and swimming, and they all had a great time. With plenty of pizza and fresh fruit, plus the ice cream cone cupcakes I made for desert, it all came out perfect. Simple, easy and so much fun. I think it was one of our best birthday parties yet!

The Artist Who Lives Here

This year more than more than any before I feel like we have an artist living at our house. Her name is Lucy. She's always loved painting, coloring and drawing but hasn't really had more than a passing focus for her drawings until this year. Each week for her reading homework we've listed the books we've read and chosen from a few activities to describe or depict the books; she usually has chosen to draw a scene from the book. She has spent a lot of time drawing elaborate pictures from books we've read this year and it has been so fun to see how she's developed her drawing skills as the time has passed. I have kept each picture and plan to bind them into a book at some point.

Happy 4th Birthday, Annabel!

Annabel turned 4 years old on May 31. Happy Birthday, big girl! She really understood her birthday this time and was beyond excited the whole day. We celebrated with cake, ice cream and presents, including a big kid bike. She took to the bike from the get go, and I anticipate a lot of bike riding this summer. I'm astonished at how time has flown by since she came into our life. Even so, she will be our baby girl forever.

All About Annabel

This one's all about Annabel. She had quite an eventful spring. First was the major accomplishment of finally getting used to the water during swimming lessons. Last summer she spent the entire time with her feet on the top step during the several sessions of swimming lessons she took. Let's just say she was just not that into swimming. This time around, mostly thanks to Scott, who she called her "Boy," she was able to get in, put her head under the water, swim all round the pool with assistance and even jump in also with assistance. We are so proud. Her "Boy" wasn't actually her instructor. Poor Andrea, her actual instructor, was completely rejected by Annabel. Our stubborn Annabel would not even get into the pool unless she saw her "Boy" swim over and take over the class. Scott was supposed to be the floater instructor, helping out when needed, but Annabel was completely taken with him and actually was as charming as could be with him. Some other parents on the observation deck even commented about what a flirt she was!

Annabel also completed her first year of preschool. She did exceptionally well in all things social and very much enjoyed her teachers and classmates alike. She loved the playtime and songs, books and new friends. She is looking forward to her next year of preschool already!
